Out with the old, in with the new

I went to the DMV today. I attempted to go to one office (where there are supposed to be shorter lines and nicer people) but could not find it. There is no sign outside of that particular office, so one really has to know what one is looking for, and since I didn't, I never did see it. I knew where the other DMV office was, however, so I went there. There were lines, but they were not horrific, and the wait was not terrible. The woman who waited on me was very nice, too. I successfully retitled my car and registered it. Unlike California, they hand you your new license plates in the DMV office when you register in New York, so my car now looks like a local.

Contrary to what people told me, I did not have to surrender my California plates to the New York DMV, so I still have them. I don't know if I will keep them or not. Methinks they may just become clutter, and I have enough of that as it is.

I have to get the car inspected in the next ten days, so I imagine I will do that tomorrow morning. I was not able to get my driver's license today, however, because the Social Security system they use was down and they could not process the license without that working. I have to go back, but it should not take long to do what I need done.

Yay, congrats! Your car is officially a New Yorker! ;) Glad to hear it was pretty painless too. :)

That car looks very big.

Thanks, Shieryl!

Matthew, it is probably big by European standards, but not so much here. American cars are generally larger, from what I understand. It is probably considered mid-size here. The picture angle is a bit funny and might make it look bigger than it is. You can put three adults in the back seat, provided none of them are particularly large.

"Does this New York license plate make my trunk look fat?"

LOL. Sorry, I couldn't resist. :)

Don't know if it's the license plate - right now there's a lot of junk in the trunk ;).

I like my car, Sarah, but my favorite part is that it is paid for! ;) Thanks.

That's also what I like best about my car. I just pay the insurance and the gaz! :)

A coworker told me California came after him (repeated letters) to renew his car registration, when it was sold out-of-state. You may want to cruise over to their web site (prolly www.ca.gov ?) and find out if they want those plates back (I don't think) or whatever.

The website is www.dmv.ca.gov and I have been there...apparently when you move out of state you should be able to just send a change of address form to the DMV. When a car is sold, the appropriate part of the title has to be filled out and signed by both parties and submitted to the DMV.
