God with us

Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Philippians 2:5-8
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Galatians 4:4-5
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

1 John 4:9-10
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Emmanuel is an amazing concept. God with us. He became flesh and dwelt among us out of love, to make us sons and daughters, to die on our behalf, to save us from our sin and to give us eternal life. If I made something I don't think I would want to be part of my own creation for a single moment. Yet that's just what He did. I find that baffling.

Who is this God who came near for my sake? The God who formed the universe from nothing. The God who first breathed life into man. The God who judges all men with terrible wrath. The God who shows mercy upon His children. The God who never slumbers and never sleeps. The God who was and is and is to come. The God who is in control over all things. This is the God who came near for my sake.
